(World No Tobacco Day)


From May 18th to May 31st 2020, SCOPH CIMSA UI celebrated World No Tobacco Day by doing air campaigns and Instagram live on CIMSA UI's official Instagram. Correlating with WHO's theme for this year's World No Tobacco Day campaign, we decided to make our theme about protecting youth from industry manipulation and preventing them from tobacco and nicotine use. 

Nowadays, the tobacco industry uses many strategies to manipulate youth such as producing cigarettes with various flavors and making modern cigarettes, such as electronic cigarettes. Results of our assessment on college students show that although most of them are aware of electronic cigarettes, their knowledge about these cigarettes is still considered low. Therefore, we have decided to choose college students as our target.  For CIMSA UI’s World No Tobacco Day campaign this year, we have picked electronic cigarettes as the main topic for our air campaigns.


The celebration of WNTD lasted for 2 weeks. In the first week, starting from May 18th, we uploaded three infographics about electronic cigarettes. The first topic was about electronic cigarette 101, the second was about the correlation of electronic cigarettes with our health and the last consisted of several myths and facts about electronic cigarettes. In the second week, we made a quiz and held an Instagram live on our official Instagram account @cimsaui with dr. Tirta as the speaker and Ratna, our newly elected LPO, as the moderator.  To measure the impact of our air campaigns, we made a quiz that consisted of questions regarding the topics of our previously uploaded infographics.  For Instagram live, we discussed dr. Tirta's experience in quitting smoking and his opinions about the World No Tobacco Day campaign. We also got feedback from dr. Tirta on how we can improve our World No Tobacco Day campaign as college students as well as a short message to smokers about how they should have empathy for others and know their place to smoke.

Although we were faced with some difficulties throughout the Instagram live such as the delay and abrupt end, we are thankful that we were able to attract many viewers. In this year's World No Tobacco Day 2020 campaign, CIMSA UI was also given the opportunity to collaborate with Suara Tanpa Rokok and BEM IM FKM UI as our media partner. We hope that this project was helpful in increasing college students’ knowledge about electronic cigarettes and was able to encourage them to stop smoking.
