For what reason is mental health so significant? Mental health includes: emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act, and more importantly, it also helps us determine how we handle stress and make choices. Hence, mental health is an important aspect at every stage of our daily lives.

The coronavirus disease 2019 ( COVID-19 ) pandemic may be stressful for a number of people. Fear and anxiety regarding the new disease and it’s impact towards the world as well as themselves, might be overwhelming, causing strong emotions in adults and teenagers.

In addition to that, by facing new realities such as: working from home, home-schooling for students, and lack of physical contact with other family members, friends, and colleagues may induce stress from within us. Home-schooling for students, may cause students to feel overwhelmed with their non-stop homework, and public health actions such as social distancing might potentially make people feel isolated and lonely as well as trigger stress and anxiety.

To solve this problem, SCOPH CIMSA UPH held an event called World Mental Health Day, which aims to raise awareness regarding mental health.

World Mental Health Day itself has a few interventions such as: a webinar, air campaign, and online consultation. For the webinar, we invited a psychologist and an internist doctor who talked about mental illness during the pandemic and how to manage it, added with an air campaign, to increase public awareness concerning the importance of mental health, lastly, an online consultation was held throughout October 2020 until late November 2020, where psychologists were invited in order to help people during this hard time.

Starting in the middle of August, SCOPH CIMSA UPH prepared the event, which was held on September until the 24th of November 2020, this time range has included all three interventions, With a 2 - 3 hour duration for the webinar which was brought by Into The Light and held through Zoom.

For the online consultations, a google form was used for people who are interested or want to consult with a psychologist from HIMPSI, afterwards, an online consultation schedule will be arranged by the committee.

To conclude, World Mental Health Day provides information along with raise awareness about the importance of mental health, in hopes that people will be able to prioritize their mental health and manage it well.
