WHO SIMULATION

SCOPE CIMSA UNEJ

As medical students, we are used to attend a webinar or a talk show where we sit and listen to our lecturer. Even though this method of teaching has been proved to be sufficient enough to improve our knowledge, we rarely get the chance to communicate and express our thoughts freely. As we all know it is crucial for us, future doctors, not only to be theoretically smart, but also to be able to communicate with people with different backgrounds. With this problem in hand, we, CIMSA UNEJ, decided to hold WHO Simulation. It is based on Model United Nation (MUN), an educational stimulation where students all across Indonesia are allowed to participate in order to practice their skills in diplomacy, international relation, and so on. Another purpose of WHO Simulation is to engage these students and allow them to develop deeper understanding into current world health issues.

For this year, as we are currently in the middle of COVID-19 pandemic, so it is impossible for us to hold this event offline, therefore we held it using the zoom teleconference. However, this disadvantage allowed us to reach the wider communities, we were able to get participants from Jakarta to Denpasar. In accordance to the most recent global health problem, the COVID-19 pandemic, we conducted an assessment and found a high score on public distrust on how the government handles the pandemic so we decided to use that as our theme.

WHO Simulation was held in three days in total. The first day was pre-activity training. This training was done to prepare the participants by educating them on the rules and steps of model united nation. The event was held on November 7th and 8th. We had 30 countries in total, ranging from least developed countries to developed countries, and used a double delegates system, in which a certain country would be represented by two delegates. During the event each participants must take part by sharing their opinion on the forum under the guidance of a chair and co-chair.

In the end of the event we came up with a draft resolution, which consists of the steps the government should consider to lessen the trust issues between the people, and this draft resolution will be given to AOMKI as part of our advocacy with hope we can build a higher trust between the people and the government during this pandemic.
