WE CARE BEARS
(We Are Conscious and Aware of Breast Cancer)
SCORA CIMSA UNSOED & RACO MMSA UMY
According to Riskesdas data in 2018 there was increase in the national prevalence of cancer by 1.8%. In fact, breast cancer is a type of cancer with the highest incidence and death rates for women. Delay in treatment and early detection of cancer results in the discovery of cancer on an advanced stage. Self-early detection is very important to overcome this probability. Early stage breast cancer more easily to treat.
October is celebrated as the breast cancer awareness month. In commemoration of breast cancer awareness month, SCORA CIMSA Unsoed held a We Care Bears (We Are Conscious and Aware of Breast Cancer) activity. This activity aims to increase awareness and knowledge of public and Unsoed medical students regarding breast cancer and early prevention (SADARI). In addition, this activity also shares perspective of breast cancer survivors in order to raise awareness in the community.
We Care Bears activity was held online. This activity consists of several forms of intervention, from October 7th 2020 to October 23rd 2020. On Wednesday, October 7th 2020, training was held for peer educators about breast cancer and SADARI by PETRA CIMSA Unsoed, Yahya Khairyhanif, Gusti Rama and Rania Nisrina. After training, the activity was continued with a ground campaign for a few days, around the educators. Through this activity, we hope the knowledge about breast cancer can be widely spread.
At the end of activity series, the webinar "Probiotics" in collaboration with RACO MMSA UMY was held. We invited speakers from PERABOI, dr. Lopo Triyanto Sp. B (K) Onk, FINACS, and breast cancer survivors from LOVEPINK. The webinar discussed thoroughly breast cancer and its risk factors, as well as the inspirational stories of survivors.
The number of webinar participants reached 253 people. Even though it was held online, participants got the benefits from this webinar. This was indicated by the increase of participant's knowledge on related topics as assessed by the increase of the pretest and posttest scores by 3,2.
This activity is an action of CIMSA Unsoed's concern, especially SCORA CIMSA Unsoed to improve the quality of health. We hope that this activity can raise awareness as effort to prevent the severity of breast cancer.
