SCORA CIMSA UNISSULA

Do you know that there is a Breast Cancer Awareness Month celebration that falls every October every year? In commemoration of 2020 Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Standing Committee on Sexual & Reproductive Health and Rights including HIV & AIDS (SCORA) CIMSA UNISSULA held an activity called WARRIOR ‘Awareness of Breast Cancer with SCORA CIMSA UNISSULA’. The activities of this event were webinar and talk show which were held through Zoom Meeting. This project was made because referring to WHO Global Cancer Observatory data (2018), the number of new breast cancer cases in Indonesia is around 58,256 cases or 16.7% of 348,809 total new cancer cases. Then, based on the explanation of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia through the article World Cancer Day, as of January 31, 2019, the incidence of cancer in Indonesia is in the 8th position in Southeast Asia, with the highest incidence of cancer in women is breast cancer, which is 42.1 per 100,000 population with an average death rate of 17 per 100,000 population. This shows that the prevalence of breast cancer in Indonesia continues to increase and requires efforts from all side to control this number. Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in women. Several factors trigger breast cancer, including genetic and environmental factors, to daily lifestyle habits. Therefore, it is important for the public to know and be aware of the risks as an effort to reduce breast cancer rates in Indonesia. There is the best and easiest way to detect breast cancer early in the COVID-19 pandemic, namely by doing breast self-examination (BSE).

Breast Self-Examination (BSE) can be carried out in individual homes and is able to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission by complying with all health protocols except for clinical examinations or what is commonly known as SADANIS (Clinical Breast Checkup). Through the movement of providing material through webinars and talk shows as well as educational videos that are delivered to the public online, especially for social media users and women of reproductive age related to promotional and preventive measures against breast cancer, it is hoped that this would help reduce the prevalence of breast cancer in Indonesia.

The party involved in this event was a webinar speaker who spoke about the clinical approach to breast cancer, namely dr. Edmond Rukmana Wikanta, M.Sc.Med., SpB (K) Onk., FINACS., FICS from the Indonesian Oncology Surgeons Association (PERABOI) and two talk show speakers who shared their stories and experiences during their struggle with breast cancer, namely Ibu Intan Nurachmi and Mrs. Nevyta Febrain Sari from Lovepink Indonesia and guided by a moderator named Aulia Azzumardila Adzra from SCORA CIMSA UNISSULA member. For the time and place of the webinar and talkshow, we held it on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at 09.00 - 11.40 through the Zoom Meeting Platform, which includes 175 people from various backgrounds such as housewives, doctors, workers, students, and women of productive age ranging in age from 20-35 years.

With this event, it is hoped that the level of public awareness, especially women of reproductive age, can increase and avoid the dangers of breast cancer. For friends who are struggling with breast cancer, rest assured that you are able to get through this ordeal and are always optimistic because there must be a healing path for all of you.
