Smoking in large amounts of cigarettes increases the risk of disease. According to WHO, the habit or behavior of smoking is one of the biggest causes of death in the world. According to the Data and Information Center of the Indonesian Ministry of Health (2014), the risk of developing lung cancer is 7.8 times greater in smokers compared to non-smokers. Basic Health Research data states that there is an increase in smoking prevalence in the population aged 10 years from 28.8% in 2013 to 29.3% in 2018. The prevalence of smoking in the population aged 10 to 18 years also increased by 1.9% from 2013 (7.2%) until 2018 (9.1%). (Riskesdas 2018).

WAFER activities were made as a form of support for SDG's number 3, "Good Health and Well-Being" and number 4, "Quality Education". Where the SDGs are expressed in the form of education on the dangers of smoking for better health and quality of life. WAFER also forms cadres who will later become smoking cessation agents for people around them. This supports the CIMSA Program, namely "Human Resources for Health"

Based on the data above, SCORE CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand raised WAFER activities to increase the knowledge of junior high school students in the city of Padang, especially SMPN 25 Padang about the impacts and dangers of smoking through material by SCORE CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand members as well as empowering SMPN cadres 7 Padang that have been exposed to material in previous WAFER activities.

WAFER activities consist of pre-intervention, intervention 1, intervention 2, and intervention 3. WAFER activities will provide material about the dangers and impacts of smoking, Focus Group Discussions, experiments on the dangers of smoking, as well as making educational posters and videos.

On Friday, November 17th, Member of SCORE CIMSA BEM-KM FK Unand has attend Pre-intervention activities for WAFER. Pre-intervention activities for the WAFER activity involved providing material on two aspects, namely spirometry and smoking cessation efforts which were presented by doctor from Pulmonology of FK Unand, Dr. Deddy Herman, Sp. P(K), FCCP, FAPSR, MCH, FISR. In this session, participants will be introduced to the function of spirometry as a tool for measuring lung function, helping them understand the importance of respiratory health monitoring. In addition, in-depth information has been provided regarding smoking cessation strategies and benefits, equipping participants with the necessary knowledge to overcome bad habits and subsequent intervention activities. Thus, this pre-intervention activity aims to provide a strong foundation for SCORE CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand members so they can take positive steps in improving their quality of life and lung health as well as providing provisions for members for subsequent intervention activities.

To maintain the quality of WAFER activities, there are indicators of success such as the implementation of pre-interventions, increasing member knowledge as assessed from pretests and post-tests, as well as carrying out experiments to determine the function of the respiratory system.

WAFER Pre-intervention is a form of SCORE CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand's efforts to increase knowledge about the impacts and dangers of smoking. This pre-intervention can increase members' knowledge so that it can become a provision for further WAFER activities.
