(Improving the Understanding of Breast and Cervical Cancer with SCORA CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand)

According to WHO, in 2020 there are 2.3 million women diagnosed with breast cancer and 685,000 deaths globally. By the end of 2020, there were 7.8 million living women diagnosed with breast cancer in the last 5 years, making it the most common cancer in the world. Meanwhile, cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women. In 2018, an estimated 570,000 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer worldwide and about 311,000 women died from the disease.

According to data from the Global Cancer Observatory (Globocan) 2020, as many as 36,633 (17.2%) recorded new cases diagnosed in Indonesia and from this data it was found that cervical cancer was in the 2nd position after breast cancer.

One of the goals of SCORA CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand is to increase knowledge about breast cancer and cervical cancer, early detection of breast cancer and cervical cancer and prevention efforts in an effort to help reduce the incidence of breast cancer and cervical cancer in Padang City through education to PKK. Such information from Head of the Disease Prevention and Control Division of the West Sumatra Health Service, Linarni Jamil in Padang, Tuesday, said that in 2019 the number of female cancer patients continued to increase in West Sumatra reaching 1,658 people.

On 14 October 2022, SCORA CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand held VICTORIA’s main event. The main event aimed to increase knowledge and awareness of the community about breast cancer and early detection of breast cancer by increasing scores of pre-test to post-test. The first material was presented by Rizka Nurul and Inca Bella about “Breast Cancer in Indonesia”. In detail, early detection included management and prevention of breast cancer.

The second material was presented by Nafisya Maharani Anvi as LORA CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand and Nabila Inaya  the title is “What Is Cervical Cancer? And How Is Early Detection”. This presentation aimed to giving the understanding about cervical cancer and early detection of cervical cancer. After that, we also have fun games and sharing session to help the audience stay focused and excited.

Lastly, talk show with survivor of breast cancer that come with love pink, a non-profit organization that focuses on socializing early detection activities by means of BSE (Breast Self-Examination), SADANIS (Clinical Breast Exam), and mentoring for fellow women with breast cancer.
