TIA 2 WDD

(TPS In Action World Diabetes Day)

SCOPH CIMSA FK UNS

On November 12th-16th 2020, SCOPH CIMSA FK UNS held TPS IN ACTION 2. TPS IN ACTION is an activity that aims to improve the quality of health and public knowledge about public health. In order to celebrate the WDD (World Diabetes Day) SCOPH CIMSA FK UNS made an activity namely TPS IN ACTION 2. We already know that 422 million people worldwide have diabetes, and 1.6 million deaths are directly attributed to diabetes each year.

The first intervention was carried out on November 12th-16th 2020, we carried out a 5 day challenge with the theme "Healthy Habits to Prevent Diabetes". This challenge was attended by all SCOPH members and 3 non-SCOPH friends of each member. We invite them to practice habits in an effort to reduce diabetes rates at a young age.

The 5 days challenge contains: exercise for at least 20 minutes, eat low-fat foods, reduce sweet foods, monitor BMI (body mass index) and body weight, and read articles about diabetes. This challenge will be posted on each Instagram story.

Furthermore, in the second intervention, we collaborated with PERSADIA (Persatuan Diabetes Indonesia) to conduct an interview with dr. Sugiarto who is a member of PERSADIA. Together, we discussed the state of diabetes cases in Indonesia, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, we discuss the important role of the family in caring for family members who suffer from diabetes, especially those with chronic conditions, where diabetes patients may also suffer from gangrene or some other form of complication. dr. Sugiarto also explained that support from family is very important in the process of treating diabetes patients. We summarize the results of this interview in the form of a video which will later be posted on IGTV Instagram @cimsauns.

From all the activities that we have made, we hope that the public will be aware of the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle in order to reduce the high number of diabetes cases in Indonesia. In accordance with the TIA 2 target, we hope that young people of our age can become pioneers in each family to provide education related to diabetes as well as explain the important role of families in the care of diabetes patients at home. Besides that, we also hope that the knowledge we provide can be of benefit to everyone.
