International Women's Day is a reminder of the achievements women had gained in the social, economic, cultural, and political fields and is a day when women from various backgrounds come together and fight for equality and their rights.
In everyday life, it is still seen that people are still unaware that they are in an unhealthy relationship -that goes for not only an abusive relationship but also a toxic relationship. In 2018, Komnas Perempuan Indonesia recorded the number of violence against wives as much as 5,167, which entails the first rank in violent cases. In contrast, in dating, there were 1,873 cases ( being of the third-highest).
In other data, Komnas reported (from data on violence against women), 58% were cases of sexual harassment (520 cases), sexual abuse (531 cases), and rape (715 cases). Every day the perpetrators of sexual harassment carry out their actions without knowing the place and age of the victim. Sexual harassment is unacceptable behavior, and in general, women are often in the spotlight of victims.
In today's digital era, where almost all activities involve the internet and technology, sexual harassment can also occur through cyberspace. Sexual harassment such as sextortion is a form of cybercrime that can victimize and disfigure their name. Compared to 2018, criminal cases have increased sharply by 300%. Therefore, it is essential that this matter be raised, be aware of, and be put into the light on the dealing of cyber threats.
The main objectives International Women's Day has in mind to be targeted include improving the understanding and awareness of the general public and medical students on unhealthy relationships, sexual harassment, empowering women and sextortion, and applying the knowledge known into dealing with it in real life.
Explicitly speaking, by each activity, STONE executed, amongst the many, a social experiment ( pre-event), carried out through Ome TV, which intends to get public reactions regarding their views on sextortion victims. Another goal STONE hoped to fulfill is to provide education, and an open perspective evolving around the topics brought up. In doing so, STONE held podcasts (pre-event), talkshow, webinars, and training - all of which, besides podcasts, took place on the main event. Last but not least, by the end of the event, the post-test (on educational video, talk show, webinars, and training) is aimed to reach an average of 70%.
International Women's Day is an annual project held by SCORP x SCORA CIMSA UI. This project was held to commemorate International Women's Day, which fell on March 8th, whereas STONE had taken place on March 13th. The themes that were delivered in 2021 were Unhealthy Relationships, Sexual Harassment, Sextortion, and Empowering Women.
The event is carried out in two stages, the pre-event and the event. As said before, in the pre-event, STONE had the conduction of social experiments on the OmeTV medium along with infographics on the IG platform @essential.talks and the result of interviews with victims of sexual harassment as well as toxic relationship published on IGTV @essential.talks ( in addition to CIMSA BANANA UI Spotify).
On the other hand, at the peak of the event, there is the screening of the educational videos based on the social experiments' results, a talk show on a toxic relationship, sexual harassment, and sextortion, a webinar in regards to empowering women and training encompassing 'how to deal with sexual harassment. Consequently closed with a post-test and documentation.
STONE as a commemoration project for International Women's Day has a positive impact on both SCORA and SCORP members through pre-activity training and the community through a series of events from STONE. The pre-activity training for 31 SCORA and SCORP CIMSA UI members shows the post-test score increased compared to the pre-test by 1 point and 1.8 points in the two training sessions. This shows an increase in knowledge about Women's Rights for Human Rights, Basic Gender-Based Violence, and Sexual Harassment & Sextortion. In addition, from the series of STONE International Women's Day events, both the pre-event and main event also positively impacted. Namely, increasing knowledge and understanding of Toxic Relationships, Sexual Harassment, Sextortion, and Empowering Women in 109 communities marked by an increase in the average post-test score of 48.5 to 72.29 points.
Finally, SCORA and SCORP CIMSA UI 2020 hope that STONE can initiate other similar activities to commemorate International Women's Day and increase public knowledge and understanding about sexual harassment, toxic relationships, and empowering women.
