STETHOSCOPE 2nd INTERVENTION

SCOPH CIMSA FK YARSI

Depression is defined as a feeling of sadness accompanied by accompanying symptoms including changes in sleep patterns, concentration, psychomotor, hopelessness, and suicidal ideation.  While anxiety is a term that describes a psychological disorder that can have characteristics in the form of fear, concern for the future, prolonged worry, and nervousness.  Mental health is an important thing that must be considered as physical health. It can cause excessive stress which will have an impact on worse mental health disorders. One of the groups of people who are vulnerable to mental health disorders are medical school students because medical education is a long educational process compared to other groups. Thus, psychiatric problems such as depression and anxiety are often found in medical students, especially first-year preclinical students and can be psychological stressors.

Many medical students have psychiatric problems, but do not want to share their condition with others, or seek treatment.  This can lead to serious problems, such as suicidal ideation.  Preventive efforts should be introduced and started at the beginning of medical education to help deal with various problems from the academic side and interpersonal relationships.  Early signs of depression and anxiety symptoms among college students must also be addressed before they get worse.  Therefore, providing information and education from an early age to students is very important.  It is hoped that by holding this Online Webinar & Talk Show, first-year FK YARSI students can add good and correct understanding and knowledge about mental health, especially depression and anxiety.

Giving e-certificate to the speaker

On the 2nd intervention, STETHOSCOPE provided the community members to speak one-on-one with a licensed psychologist. Aided by HIMPSI Banten, we managed to make it happen. All community members had to sign an informed consent prior to talking to the psychologists on the day of the event. Preceding that, we reassessed the community’s mental health problems adhering to HIMPSI Banten’s test so that their psychologists can have more outlook to the mental health of the community, more specifically the members they would talk one-on-one with.

The community members responded positively to the questionnaire distributed after their sessions. As such, the 2nd intervention of STETHOSCOPE can be considered a success.
