OSCE is one of the exams medical students will face every semester. This type of exam will make any student let alone freshmen ask themselves: “Am I going to pass the exam?“.

One of the reasons why OSCE is quite feared by new medical students is the lack of familiarity in clinical exams. Unlike the usual exams, clinical exams test the students’ practical clinical skills in a simulated environment, which might be foreign for them. With the lack of familiarity with how the exam works, students are more likely to feel anxious, which will result in a lower grades, in addition to that, online classes exacerbate students’ anxiousness, as tutors can’t exactly show certain skills that might be helpful for students due to limited resources, hence, students might feel incapable as they feel that they don’t possess the necessary skills or comprehend what to do during the exam.

To solve the problem, SCOME x HRD Team CIMSA UPH created a new event called SINERGI (Simulasi Menangani Grogi OSCE) which is a subset event of EAGLE, another main event of the SCOME x HRD Team CIMSA UPH event.

This means, like EAGLE, SINERGI has a small study group session where students can discuss problems with senior members of CIMSA UPH and their peers in a relaxed environment. For SINERGI, the problem being discussed is the First Aid Block. Unlike EAGLE, SINERGI has a simulation exam with the purpose of allowing the new students to adapt to the OSCE environment, besides the simulation, senior members also provide tips so that students will be more prepared for their OSCEs.

Starting in middle August, HRD Team and SCOME CIMSA UPH members prepared the event, which was held on 20th September 2020 with a 2-hour duration for the study session and 90 minutes for a simulation exam.

For the study session, participants and tutors will be split into 5 different groups, each group consisting of 8 participants and 3 tutors. For the simulation exam, the participants and tutors will be divided into 3 different batches, each batch consisting of 15 participants and 3 tutors. Each tutor will examine each student per batch with 3 different simulated events for 30 minutes.

In short, SINERGI is an event to prepare students for their OSCEs through a mock simulation exam in hopes that this event will give students better preparation for their OSCEs.
