SCOME and SCORP CIMSA Universitas Airlangga carried out the sixth Community Development SIGNAL (Surpassing Barrier with Sign Language) intervention on 4th February 2022, in RK Khusus Histologi Universitas Airlangga. This intervention was attended by 30 participants, consisting of CIMSA UNAIR members and SIGNAL’s community members.

SIGNAL’s sixth intervention was opened with an introduction from the Master of Ceremony and it was continued by the Community Development Officer of SIGNAL, Fitri Mazia. Before the event started, participants were directed to fill out a pre-test via Google Form.

In this intervention, SIGNAL invited Ika Irawan from TIBA (Tim Bisindo dan Aksesibilitas Surabaya) as a speaker and a Sign Language Interpreter who helped Mr. Wawan. Before started, we reviewed the alphabet material taught in the previous intervention and introduced ourselves one by one in front of the class using Indonesian Sign Language. After reviewing the previous material, we moved to the material in this sixth intervention. Mr. Wawan taught us about verbs, adjectives, seasons, professions, and medical words. These materials of the course are very interesting because we can apply them in everyday life, especially when doing anamnesis. Mr. Wawan also allowed us to ask what medical terms we want to know because not all medical terms have been found in sign language. The participants were very active and enthusiastic during the class they asked several things to Mr. Wawan and followed his instructions to practice sign language.

After studying and practicing today's topic, we were allowed to practice taking anamnesis directly with Mr. Wawan. This is very important to do so that we can not only memorize but can apply it in real life when we meet patients.

After SIGNAL’s sixth intervention series of events were completed, the Master of Ceremony led the participants to fill out the post-test and evaluation forms. The event then closed with a fun group photo session. Hopefully, by holding this sixth intervention, attendees can understand more about sign language and be able to practice it in the future.
