Adolescents’ knowledge on sexual and reproductive health is still limited. According to the 2017 SKDI Adolescent Report, the largest proportion of dating for the first time is on the age range 15-17 years. There are 45 percent of women and 44 percent of men dating for the first time at this age range. However, the percentage of men and women who get lessons about sexual and reproductive health are only 59 percent and 55 percent.
The adolescents' knowledge about physical changes of puberty, there are 49.6 percent of men in the 15-19 age range who know the main changes in men during puberty, namely wet dreams. The percentage of physical changes during puberty in women that most women know are menstruation (89%), while what men know are the growth of the breasts (60%). The most widely known percentage of physical changes during puberty in men are voice changes, 77 percent by women and 53 percent by men.
Based on that data, SCORA CIMSA UNAIR made a project called SGTS (SCORA Goes to School). SGTS was a project to improve the knowledge of adolescents in Surabaya about sexual and reproductive health on November 1st, 2020. The project was attended by some students from SMAN 2 Surabaya and SMAK St. Louis I Surabaya. The content explained in this project are :
- Sexual and Reproductive Anatomy and Physiology
- Reproduction
- Puberty (Wet dream and Menstruation)
- Consent, Privacy, and Bodily Integrity
- Safe use of informations and communications technologies
- Types of Sexual Violence (Catcall, Rape, Abuse, dsb)
- Finding Help and Support
On November 1st, 2020, the event went by explanation from the members about sexual and reproductive health. After the explanation, the participants went into FGD to discuss some cases about sexual and reproductive health. To add the excitement, we also played a game with the participants. Some winners were given gifts.
The impact of this event was seen on the increased score from the pre-test to post-test and from the evaluation form given. There will be also follow up in the form of community development interventions in SPEARS (School Peer Educator Recruits).
We hope by this event, the participants will never stop learning about sexual and reproductive health and also all the students that participated in SGTS will be joined to our community development, SPEARS.
