Hello, CIMSA!
Still, sexual health and rights remain fundamental issues for the overall health and well-being of individuals. According to data from Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta Health Profile in 2020, the number of people with HIV was 5.627, with 363 new cases reported. On the other hand, data from Komnas Perempuan shows that in 2022, there were 338.496 cases of gender-based violence in Indonesia. In response to the high prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases and other sexual problems, SCORA CIMSA UGM held SECATEEN (Sexual Education for Teens) provides comprehensive sexual education for students of SMPN 4 Ngaglik through peer educators.
This year, SECATEEN presents its Final Intervention that aims to increase the knowledge of third graders of SMP Negeri 4 Ngaglik regarding the topics of sexuality. We wrapped up all the materials in the previous interventions, including HIV/AIDS, gender-based violence, comprehensive sexuality education, and a new topic about gender identity to broaden their knowledge. With those as the basis, we hope it'll help them avoid activities and behaviors that can cause HIV/AIDS and/or nearing gender-based violence practice.
The big day! - SECATEEN OCs visited the school to hold education for four classes. Initially, we conducted a gallery walk where the students got some prior knowledge by reading the poster we provided. Then, they were split into four groups to discuss the materials they got. The group discussion also involved the elected Dokter Kecil as peer educator for the students. After the education, we held a mini-game where the students had to guess a word by giving somebody's gesture related to the clues. Next, we did a red-ribbon challenge where the students could write messages to ODHA on the banner.
Last but not least, we ended up with 'What I've Done Tree' as the follow-up method. The students need to do some activities that are related to any material we gave then they will write it down on sticky notes. The sticky notes will be put on the banner and hung in the class. This event increased participants' understanding and awareness regarding HIV/AIDS, gender-based violence, comprehensive sexuality education, and gender identity. We hope, by doing this, they could implement them in the attitudes and actions of participants in society.
