SCOPH CIMSA PEMA FK USU

On May 30th, 2020, SCOPH CIMSA PEMA FK USU held a yearly event to celebrate “World No Tobacco Day”  called Save Your Breath From Today (SEBAT). This project consists of a podcast release and a webinar. In this project, we talked about Psychology of Smokers and How to Quit, How Smoking Ruins Our Body, and Risk of Covid-19 on Smokers.

The first campaign we did was a podcast release in CIMSA USU’s Spotify. We had a talkshow with Anastasya Valentine as SEBAT’s Project Officer and a speaker from Quit Tobacco Indonesia. We talked briefly about some of SEBAT’s main topics: how smoking ruins our body and the risk of COVID-19 on smokers. The podcast was released on May 30th along with posting some other online campaigns on Instagram including twibbon and infographics.

On the second day of our campaign, May 31st, 2020, we held a webinar. For the webinar, we used Google Meet as the platform and had high school students as the participants. The event started at 9 in the morning with an opening and a brief introduction about CIMSA. Then, we started the webinar with a presentation from Dr.dr. Elmeida Effendy. M.Ked., Sp.KJ(K) from Departement of Psychiatry University of Sumatera Utara talking about Psychology of Smokers and How to Quit. After the presentation, the high school students enthusiastically asked questions during the Q&A session.

The following presentation about How Smoking Ruins Our Body and Risk of Covid-19 on Smokers was by Quit Tobacco Indonesia. As it was a relatable topic at this time, all the participants once again asked questions with excitement.

After these presentations, we did a Small Working Group in which we talked about cases regarding the topics relating to the presentations. The participants were divided into several groups and each group was guided by our local’s officials as PIC. After a brief discussion on the topics, the participants were asked to share their new knowledge. Creatively, they showcased their point of view on the cases with a really casual approach. The group which fulfilled the indicators best was awarded a present. To close the webinar, we took pictures as documentation and the participants shared their impression on the webinar. In conclusion, the event went well, despite some problems mostly caused by the fact that the event had to be held online. The participants were able to participate actively and the speakers were also able to educate everyone well.
