Hello, CIMSA!
SAND (Stand Up for Street and Displaced Children) is an activity that was held to increase knowledge and awareness about "The Rights of Street Children and Their Handling in Indonesia". Street children are vulnerable to being neglected. Based on data from year to year, the number of street children in Surakarta City has fluctuated. The Head of Social Rehabilitation of the Surakarta City Social Service, Evi Maharani, explained that the number of street children every year is higher. There are 206 children in 2020, 285 children in 2021, and 285 street children in 2022. In addition, the research conducted by Wiliyanarti (2019) regarding the measurement of Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat (PHBS) in street children obtained results of 6.7% PHBS, 33.3% PHBS sufficient, and 60% low. Street children who are assisted by the shelters still show a lack of clean and healthy living behaviour, as research conducted by Isnaeni (2008) showed that the PHBS of street children in one of the shelters is not optimal at only 50.5%. Based on the data that showed a high number of street children, the SCORP CIMSA FK UNS is interested in this opportunity to do a SAND activity by bringing up that topic.
The activity concept of SAND starts from pre-activity training, intervention, and publishing an infographic. On 11th September 2022, the pre-activity training was held for CIMSA FK UNS members consisting of a material presentation session on street children and their handling in Indonesia by speakers from Lembaga Kesejahteraan Sosial Berbasis Mahasiswa (LKS-BMh), Handika Naufal Husni, S.H, M.H. and Nur Zaenab, S.Ag.
Furthermore, at the peak of the event which was held on 17th September 2022, an intervention was held for street children under the auspices of PPAP Seroja Surakarta. The institution is a social institution that focuses on empowering marginalized women and children in Surakarta. The intervention took the form of training sessions that were brought directly by a doctor and FGD sessions on the topic of health and personal hygiene. The last one, there was also an infographic that was uploaded on the instagram of CIMSA FK UNS. The infographic contains street children and their handling in Indonesia. We hope the infographic can add insight and increase awareness of the public about street children.
