PROTEIN: Prevent Stunting for Better and Healthier Generation From 07 January 2023 until 23 January, an insightful and wonderful activity was held by SCOPH CIMSA UNAIR. Our second activity throughout this tenure was held to commemorate National Nutrition Day which is celebrated nationally on 25 January. PROTEIN is an activity targeted to educate the public regarding the prevention of stunting and the younger generation’s roles in supporting it. Stunting itself is a developmental condition when children are shorter than their peers due to chronic undernutrition. Stunting decreases chances for good academic performance and well-being in individuals affected for a long period. This poses a great problem for future generations in Indonesia if not assessed quickly and well. On that basis, SCOPH CIMSA UNAIR decided to act together to raise public health awareness, especially stunting
Our member undergoes training that was held on 7 January 2023. Trainers from CIMSA Public Health Leader (PHL) shared valuable information concerning health promotion, stunting, and malnutrition. Amilia Putri Larasati as CIMSA PHL shared the basis of Health Promotion in Community Empowerment, a topic relevant to SCOPH as a Public Health enthusiast. Other than that, Caesariska Deswima also as CIMSA PHL shared the correlation between stunting and the condition of malnutrition. Important insights help members to understand their act on stunting issues before entering community empowerment through PROTEIN Main Event.
The Main Event was held on 21 January 2023. SCOPH CIMSA UNAIR decided to collaborate with Puskesmas Mojo in terms of community outreach and community empowerment. Our Main Event includes a seminar and workshop which was attended by mothers of children under five of Posyandu Kelurahan Mojo. Around 40 mothers attended with their children to join our Main Event. A different atmosphere hit when the hall was full of adorable children playing with their peers while their mothers listened to the seminar. The Seminar was brought by Dr. Ratna Megasari, M. Kes., as the Head of Puskesmas Mojo. The Seminar increases awareness in the understanding of stunting and its correlation with malnutrition. Other than that, the Seminar also emphasized the importance of MPASI (Makanan Pendamping ASI) in fulfilling children's nutrition needs together with breast milk.
After serious discussion concerning stunting and MPASI, participants were excited enough to join our Workshop. This event demonstrates to us how to cook rice croquette, one of the nutritiously healthy MPASI with a reasonable household budget, guided by Vivin Retno Lestari, Puskesmas Mojo Children Counselor. Mothers were mostly excited to learn new recipes which can fulfill their children’s nutritional needs.
After our wonderful experience in PROTEIN Main Event with Puskesmas Mojo and Posyandu, we continued our campaign to increase awareness of the younger generation's role in preventing stunting as a public health issue. Our last activity, an Instagram life, was held on 23 January 2023. With Dominikus Raditya Atmaka, B.Sc.(Nutr.), MPH as a lecturer from the Faculty of Public Health Universitas Airlangga, we discuss thoroughly the importance of the younger generation’s role in preventing stunting. With our post-event successfully done, our serial event of PROTEIN has reached its end. However, our spirit as public health enthusiasts and future medical workers will always soar!
