SCOPH CIMSA UI

On Sunday, October 6th 3019, SCOPH CIMSA UI held one of its projects which is Project X: Explaining Mental Health, Expelling the Stigma. This project is held to commemorate World Mental Health Day.

This activity began by doing an assessment to college students from various faculties where the report says about 5,2% of them have some mental disorder history such as depression, borderline personality disorder, etc. The highest result says that most of the college students still do not understand about mental disorder well.

Therefore, the activities of Project X began with a seminar about the way to prevent suicide and continued with counseling by dr. Profitasari Kusumaningrum, Sp. KJ. First, she told about the definition of mental health are when every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and also is able to make a contribution to her or his community. On the other hand, a mental disorder is a clinically significant behavior or psychological syndrome associated with distress or disability. She gave a fact about mental health, now 1 in 4 people will experience mental health problems every year and  55% of people who experienced mental health disorders can not tell about the problems. Suicide is the second-highest cause of mortality in the age group 15-29 years old. Not all suicides are caused by mental disorders, but 80-90% of adolescents who die from suicide have significant psychopathologies such as mood disorders, personality disorder, and drug abuse. In Indonesia, the total number of deaths due to suicide became 1800 cases in one year, 23,8% of victims were women, 76,2% of victims were males and every day around five people died because of suicide.

Next, dr Profitasari also gave a lesson on how to be a good peer counselor, the counselor acts as a facilitator to reach every member and improving their good potential. We provided some cases where the participant tried to solve the case and became a counselor. Last but not least, at the end of the workshop dr. Profitasari gave some feedback to the participants.

In the last of the event, there was a talk show with the speakers from Into The Light, Alfonsus Bayu Dirgantara, S. Psi, and Sylvia Adriana. MC gave some question and the speakers answered the question based on their unique experience to survive their mental disorders.

While the activities of the event were going, the participants asked many questions and listened to the information actively. Project X went well until the end and we really had a good time together.
