PRIMI 2nd INTERVENTION
(Parents with Premature Infants)
CIMSA UNAIR
The birth of a premature baby is a birth that occurs before 37 weeks of gestational age. The formation and development of organs still occur in the final weeks of pregnancy. The implication of this, is that the younger the pregnancy is, the higher risk of health problems and death in infants. The effects of premature birth can last a lifetime on the essential functions of the body. Based on data from RSUD Dr. Soetomo, in January 2019, there were 73 births in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). A total of 42 births were premature births and it was the highest the NICU RSUD Dr. Soetomo ever had. Many of the parents of premature babies returned to the hospital because their children experienced issues on growth and development.
The purpose of holding PRIMI is to raise awareness and increase knowledge from the community of parents with premature babies who have been treated from the NICU RSUD Dr. Soetomo and the members of CIMSA UNAIR. We hope that these parents will later become cadres who are able to educate people about premature babies. PRIMI has four series of events held online based on video conferencing. The events began with the member upgrading session on September 10th, 2020. The second event is bonding with parents of premature babies on September 12th, 2020. Afterwards, 2nd intervention was held on September 26th, 2020, and 3rd intervention on October 25th, 2020.
Webinar about Fulfilling Balanced Nutrition in Premature Babies
PRIMI's second intervention raised the topic of ‘Fulfilling Balanced Nutrition in Premature Babies’. The speaker was Dr. dr. Nur Aisiyah Widjaja, SpA(K). She taught many things about complementary foods in the first 1000 days of life in premature babies to prevent malnutrition and stunting. After that, we held a question and answer session. Some parents asked questions about nutrition fulfilment for their children. At the end of this session, we presented a demonstration video about nutrition fulfilment through a healthy menu.
We really hope that after receiving the material, parents could apply the knowledge in real life. So, we held a challenge for parents that required parents to make creative healthy menu and upload their menu photos on the PRIMI WhatsApp group so that the committee can evaluate them. We hope that this 2nd Intervention can provide useful information for PRIMI participants then one day they will become extraordinary cadres engaged in the field of premature babies.
