As medical students, we are known as long-life learners which means we will not stop learning by the time we officially become doctors, because we are obligated to learn things till our last breath since medical-related things will always have update, so we can’t be left behind. One of the ways that allow us to gain more knowledge is by studying abroad.
Studying abroad, as a student or a researcher, has a lot of benefits, therefore on Thursday, October 22nd, 2020, SCOPE and SCORE CIMSA FK UIN SH held a one-day event called MERCH—Medical Education and Research Abroad via Zoom Meeting to apprise details of studying abroad based on the experiences of dr. Nanda Lucky Prasetya, MMSc and dr. Nada Ristya Rahmani, M.Sc with the participants who were preclinical and clinical students of FK UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.
The event divided into two sessions of talk show. The first session was for dr. Nada as a Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam alumni and PhD candidate in Regenerative Medicine Universitair Medisch Cenrtum Utrecht to tell us her journey on how she got her scholarship as well as the culture and the habits of the people in Netherland. She even showed us the environment there.
The event continued to the second talk show with dr. Nanda as Harvard University alumni who told us all about studying abroad in America; how he could survive with the culture shock and the condition of his mental health during it. Both sessions were closed by having a question and answer time with the speakers, the participants were very excited that we got a lot of questions to be asked. Then we took pictures together and played games that have been prepared by the committees. It was a song trivia and participants with highest score would get prizes.
Finally, we got notified that the activity primary assessment to measure participants’ interest on studying abroad has increased, which shows our achievement. We also got positive feedback not only from the participants but also from both speakers, we had a very good time. By that we are hoping the activity give them truly benefits and useful knowledge. Seeing the enthusiasm of the participants make the event also deserve to be held next year with other amazing speakers.
