LOLIPOPS
(Let’s Do Healthy Habits to Prevent Diabetes)
SCOPH CIMSA-BEM KM FK UNAND
World Diabetes Day, held every November 14th, 2020, is celebrated by CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand through the LOLLIPOPS series: Let's Make Healthy Habits to Prevent Diabetes. The background for this event was based on our literacy study, in which we found an increasing number of diabetics during the pandemic due to the shift of our lifestyle. For this reason, LOLLIPOPS brings a big theme about how to maintain healthy habits to prevent diabetes during a pandemic.
LOLLIPOPS consists of several series of activities. On November 7th 2020, we conducted training for members related to diabetes with dr. Ninda Septia Yuspar Sp. Pd. This training is carried out to increase members' knowledge regarding diabetes, prevention, and screening of diabetes. By carrying out this training, we hoped that members would help educate themselves and share this knowledge with the people around them.
On November 14th, 2020, we conducted a social media campaign; SCOPH members post a series of Instagram Story challenges and education about diabetes. We ran the ground campaign; members educate their families and neighbors with strict health protocol. SCOPH members can also educate their distant relatives through virtual meetings or video calls. Through this activity, we hope that the education about diabetes and its prevention during a pandemic can be echoed to many more families all over Indonesia.
We did a broadcast on November 15th, 2020, at Star Radio Padang with dr. Harlin Farhani and our member M. Rayhan Abiyyu J. In this broadcast, we discussed recommendations for handling diabetes mellitus in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The last series of LOLLIPOPS is the Webinar, Dietary Habits of Diabetes Patients During COVID-19 Pandemic: Variety and Frequency of Food Intake, held on November 21st 2020. Our webinar speaker was Angel Jovi Burhanuddin, a Nutritionist Specializing in Diabetic Patient and Clinical Human Nation, and moderated by dr. Rizi Juanevi, an alumna of CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand 2013. This webinar discusses how to manage a good diet, which is tailored to each individual's needs to prevent diabetes. We hoped that through this webinar, the participants would be able to learn about good nutrition and at least be aware of starting to change their diet and lifestyle for the better. Because we are all aware, prevention is always better than cure.
