(Flood Emergency: Safety and Prevention)
SCORP CIMSA UNISULLA
Greetings, CIMSA!
In commemoration of the International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction on October 13th, 2021, SCORP CIMSA Lokal UNISSULA held an activity called LOCATION “Flood Emergency: Safety and Prevention”. The environment can be both a resource and a hazard. Environmental conditions change both rapidly and slowly, due to various factors, and various impacts. Changes in one or more of the environmental components will affect other components of the environment with different intensities. Hazards or disasters caused by nature are referred to as natural disasters which are natural events that have a major impact on the human population. Meanwhile, according to UU no. 24 tahun 2007 concerning Disaster Management, natural disasters are disasters caused by events or a series of events caused by nature.
One of the natural disasters is a flood. Flood is a condition where the land is inundated by the flow of water in excessive volume. According to the Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI), floods are defined as “berair banyak dan deras, kadang-kadang meluap, air yang banyak dan mengalir deras, serta peristiwa terbenamnya daratan karena volume air meningkat”. Floods are a never-ending problem for humans all over the world from the past, present and future. Floods are caused by natural activities or as a result of human activities, it can even be caused by these two things.
In Indonesia, when floods occur and their magnitude varies from region to region, almost all regions face significant flooding problems. According to the directorate of rivers, every year 300 floods occur that inundate 150,000 ha and harm about 1 million people. Currently, flood cases continue to increase both in urban and rural areas. One of the causes of the high number of flood cases in Indonesia is the lack of public awareness of the importance of protecting and caring for the environment.
Therefore, SCORP CIMSA Lokal UNISSULA held an air campaign LOCATION with the aim of increasing awareness, knowledge and concern for Indonesian people regarding flood prevention and mitigation.
Activities that have been done include quizzes held through Instastory, infographics and Instagram TV videos. This activity was carried out on October 13rd, 2021 through CIMSA Lokal UNNISULA’s Instagram. It aims to educate the public about preventive activities that must be done to prevent flooding and what to do when a flood disaster occurs.
With this activity, we hope that it can increase awareness, knowledge and concern of the Indonesian people, especially medical students regarding flood prevention and mitigation efforts when floods occur.
