LAVENDER
(Let’s Make Family as The Great Home for Children During COVID-19 Pandemic)
SCORP CIMSA-BEM KM FK UNAND
Children as the successors of the nation are one of the vulnerable groups who often experience various types of violence, exploitation, and other rights violations due to poor parenting, especially in the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the role of parents and families as the primary and first caregivers is very important in providing positive care for children to fulfill their rights and protect the children, especially while entering the new normal era.
According to KPAI Annual Report 2021, there were 6.519 cases of child protection issues. From the total complaints received by KPAI, the most common complaints is coming from family clusters and alternative care, registered in 1.622 cases. This number includes 519 cases related to parents or family conflicts and 413 cases related to the prohibition of meeting parents.
In commemoration of National Children's Day (HAN) 2021 in July 23rd 2021, SCORP CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand conducted an activity, namely LAVENDER (Let's Make Family as the Great Home for Children during the COVID-19 Pandemic). In addition, LAVENDER also supports SDG's point 4.2, that is to ensure that all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development and care, pre-primary education so that they are ready for basic education. LAVENDER raised a topic about "Children's Rights in Families and Their Care during the COVID-19 Pandemic".
This activity consists of several series of events, training, and air campaign. The 1st series of events was held on July 17, 2021, in the form of training delivered by the Human Rights Education Facilitator (HREF). This training is aiming to strengthen the SCORP CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand members’ knowledge about violence against children and the fulfillment of their rights during the COVID-19 pandemic in the family.
The next series of events is the Air Campaign as the closing of the activity. The Air Campaign was held in the form of a talk show through a live broadcast on NAGARI TV on July 23rd, 2021. In this talk show, we invited speakers from Forum Anak Padang to discuss more about the rights of children in the family and their care during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this talk show, Forum Anak Padang also presented several examples of children's rights violations in the family during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We hope that through this activity we can increase the knowledge and awareness of SCORP CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand members and the public regarding the rights of children in the family and their care during the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope that together we can be more concerned about the fulfillment of children's rights, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic with all the limitations it causes.
