Hello, CIMSA!
LANTERN: Learning and Exploring Together in Research, is a Community Development in SCORE CIMSA UGM that aims to improve and increase research interests and behaviors to younger generations. LANTERN has already conducted its first intervention back in March 2021, with the topic of Introduction to Research as well as a simple hands-on experiment. LANTERN is back with its second intervention!
In this second intervention, another Bonding is held and continued with a 2-day intervention. The bonding itself was held on 19th August 2022 in SMPN 5 Yogyakarta, where 20 students of SMPN 5 and LANTERN OCs from CIMSA UGM played three games – Simon Says, Pegang Tanganku and Macet di Jalan. Re-introduction of LANTERN’s timeline and concept are also conducted followed by formation of small research groups of 3-4 students. Lastly, awarding on the Best Participant is given and documentation is done. Students of SMPN 5 are given a task – to think of research ideas based on what they are interested in and submit those ideas in the Google Form provided.
The second intervention starts on Day-1 - 31st August 2022, 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. Day-1 starts with a brief ice breaking game by MC, followed by Pre-test and introduction of trainers for the day, Arif Nurhadi and Albertus Tuhu Setyo Nugroho, from SAGASITAS. Mas Arif and Mas Tuhu explained on the topic of How to Make a Good Research Proposal, as well as giving great and important tips on how to do so. Training session is followed by QnA session, Post-test and documentation.
Day-2 comes with a lot of fun! This activity was held on 16th September 2022, 01.00 p.m. to 4.30 p.m., opened with ice breaking to increase the enthusiasm of the participants. Then continued with a consultation session on research ideas and research proposal designs with the OCs. The participants were very enthusiastic and proactive in participating in this activity. Participants will also continue to be accompanied by OCs until they finish making their research proposal.
Through LANTERN, students of SMPN 5 Yogyakarta were able to gain knowledge about “How to make a good research proposal.” Additionally, they were able to practice how to communicate, cooperate, be active, be aware of the problems around them and think critically. We hope that they believe research is truly fun through LANTERN.
