(Human Rights Day-Youth Action Against Ableism)

SCORP CIMSA FK UNS

Human Rights Day is celebrated every 10th December. This year, SCORP CIMSA raised the theme "Unlearning Ableism," which is an action against discrimination, and defended equality for people with disabilities, especially in Indonesia.  People with disabilities, as defined in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, refers exclusively to persons with long-term impairments. Ableism itself means the discrimination of and social prejudice against people with disabilities based on the belief that typical abilities are superior.

To celebrate Human Rights Day 2020, SCORP CIMSA UNS held a series of events called 'THISABLE' (Youth Action Against Ableism) on 7-14th December 2020. This project was open to the public and divide into four main events: air campaign, sign language training, webinar, and video campaign publication by the end of all activity.

In the first event, an air campaign, more than 130 volunteers joined from all over Indonesia. They had to join pre-activity training on 7th December delivered by our Human Rights Trainer, Renasheva, to prepare them for doing air campaign. The air campaign was held on 8-10th and 12th December in an Instagram story. For the first day, all volunteers had to post questions about ableism and people with disabilities, followed by its infographic explanation on the second day of the campaign. On the third day, they posted a question card about sign language and the sign language training poster. On the last day, they posted a do-you-know-card containing infographics about people's constitutional law with disability and webinars' posters.

Sign language training held on 11th December was opened to the public and joined by more than 140 CIMSA and non-CIMSA members. PUSBISINDO delivered it as the speaker. The webinar was held on 13th December and hosted by Mimi Institute and PPDI DIY. Mimi Lusli from Mimi Institute shared the details of disabilities, their definition, causes, and how to interact with them. Mr. Akhmad Soleh from PPDI DIY shared about the implementation of disabilities' rights, its paradigm, form of ableism, and what can we do to provide equality for them. By the end of all events, SCORP CIMSA UNS shared a video campaign about disabilities on CIMSA UNS' official Instagram account.

By organizing THISABLE, SCORP CIMSA UNS hopes that society can improve their knowledge about disabilities and start an action to improve equality for them. Let us stop ableism and make a beautiful brotherhood.
