HRD - STORM 2020
(Human Rights Day - Stop the Violence against Children's Movement)
SCORP CIMSA USU
Human Rights Day is celebrated annually around the world on December 10. This day is celebrated to remember that the right to live for every individual is equal.
Children's rights are a subset of human rights. According to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, children's rights are grouped into four categories: survival rights, protection rights, development rights, and participation rights. However, there are still children in the world whose rights are not fulfilled and victims of violence against children.
Carrying the theme of preventing violence against children in commemoration of Human Rights Day, this year, SCORP-CIMSA USU held a series of events to increase awareness, concern, and knowledge about violence against both children with and without disabilities.
The series of commemorative events began with a Human Rights Day training with the topics "Unlearning Ableism" and "Child Maltreatment." The training was held on December 19, 2020, through the Zoom Meeting platform and human rights trainers Patrick Limbardon and Ruth Theresia Sibarani. Despite the training being held online, it did not reduce CIMSA USU members' enthusiasm to join and enliven this training.
The second series of events was the Air Campaign with the release of podcasts with the theme of children's rights and cases of child abuse on CIMSA USU's Spotify, Apple Podcast, and Google Podcast on December 26, 2020, where the committee invited five members of the general public to distribute twibbons which contain infographics about the many cases of child abuse to both children with and without disabilities.
The last series of events was the release of an educational video in collaboration with the Yayasan Pusaka Indonesia representatives, Mrs. Elisabeth Juniarti P., SH, as the Advocacy Division Coordinator on December 27, 2020. The video contains information about children's rights, the legal basis for protecting children and children's rights, forms of legal protection carried out by the Yayasan Pusaka Indonesia, and the causes to prevent child violence. The educational video can be found on CIMSA USU's YouTube channel.
The series of events held is our way of raising public awareness regarding child abuse cases still very much alive. Anyone can take part in a change to prevent, reduce, and end violence against children.
