The cardiovascular system consists of the heart and its blood vessels. A wide array of problems can arise within the cardiovascular system and induce cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death and a major cause of mortality and morbidity globally. An estimated 17.9 million people died from Cardiovascular diseases in 2019, representing 32% of all global deaths. Of these deaths, 85% were due to heart attack and stroke.

As we all know, a healthy cardiovascular system is heavily influenced by people’s daily habits and actions. Regular physical activity, well-balanced nutrition, weight management, and not smoking have all been demonstrated to significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Unfortunately, The American Heart Association estimates that only 5% of individuals follow all of this lifestyle. The challenge to the medical and health care communities is to more aggressively promote components to prevent cardiovascular disease in the future.

On September 29th, 2021, to celebrate World Heart Day, SCOPH CIMSA FK UIN SH held an event called HOURGLASS “How Well Do You Know About Heart Attack and Stroke” which provided applicable knowledge and daily routine to bring cardiovascular disease away through 3 interventions of HOURGLASS. The first intervention was a Cooking Demo “Diet for a Healthy Heart” on September 26th with Mrs. Ayem Istikana from Kursus Kelas Memasak as a Tutor. The event started at 09.30 a.m. with a light discussion about healthy foods and ways to cook them. Also, there was a cardiovascular quiz “CIMSA Trivia” posted on Instagram Story, and prizes were provided for 3 quiz winners with the fastest and the most correct answer.

Last, as a final intervention, an on-air Live Instagram discussing cardiovascular disease on @cimsauin with dr. Bambang Dwiputra, Sp.JP(K), FIHA and IGTV uploaded on September 29th. During the Live Instagram session, viewers were very active and enthusiastic to know more about cardiovascular diseases and how to prevent them. This can be proven by the crowd of the chat column.
Finally, we kindly hope this memorable event, HOURGLASS, will be beneficial for the general public especially CIMSA FK UIN SH members, therefore, we can increase our knowledge, raise awareness about cardiovascular disease including heart attack and stroke, and apply a healthy lifestyle from now on to improve nation’s health.
