SCOPH CIMSA USU

Hello, CIMSA!

In commemoration of World Mental Health Day (WMHD) which falls on every October 10, SCOPH CIMSA USU held a series of activities, called HOPE (Help Yourself Find Yourself). The purpose of this activity is to increase public awareness of the importance of mental health, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic which indirectly affects people's mental health. This activity also aimed to increase public knowledge, especially those aged 20-30 years old or the  fresh graduates on how to overcome the Quarter life crisis. HOPE's activities began with the release of teaser and infographics on October 15, 2021. As the highlight we held a workshop about an Initial Psychological Support (DPA) collaborated with Ikatan Psikolog Klinis Indonesia (IPK Indonesia) Sumatera Utara on October 16, 2021 via Zoom . The activity ended with the release of a podcast,  on October 23,2021

The workshop started at 10 am which was attended by 36 participants with Arliza Juairiani Lubis, M.Sc., Psychologist as the speaker, from IPK Indonesia. Participants were first given education about how Initial Psychological Support becomes a method to help someone in managing the situation they are facing and making the right decision, based on the information they have, which is applied by paying attention to one's emotions, listening actively, and if necessary, providing practical help, such as problem solving, help of accessing basic needs or referring to further help.

After the presentation from our speaker, the participants were divided into several groups in breakout rooms to discuss a case , and gave their own views regarding the initial psychological support that could be provided based on the material presented by the speaker. This session  was guided by facilitators, who were OC of HOPE, and CIMSA USU trainers. Then, each group representative presented the results of their discussion back in the main room and  responded by the speaker.

The Podcast released, discussed about the Quarter life crisis on fresh graduates with Dr. dr. Elemeida Effendy, M.Ked, Sp.KJ (K) from Bhayangkara Hospital Medan, as the speaker.  This podcast mainly discussed the causes and ways to overcome the Quarter life crisis, for people aged 20-30 years old who are at the peak of their maturation which begin to question and think about their future . When they couldn’t overcome it, this would cause emotional problems which could impact on their mental health.
