“Good nutrition connects all parts of our existence in health.” but how could it be that important? Nutrition is a critical part of health and development. According to WHO, consuming a healthy diet throughout the life-course helps to prevent malnutrition in all its forms as well as a range of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and conditions. However, lifestyle changes and increased fast food productions have led to significant changes in dietary patterns.

Nowadays, consumption of processed junk foods, instead of consuming enough fruit, vegetables, and dietary fiber has increased, proved by a research done by European Journal of Public Health (EUPHA) which mentioned that unhealthy food consumption was significantly associated by lower intake of fruit and vegetables and with the increase of sedentary behavior; these risks were seen in numerous people and is interestingly higher in adolescents.

Poor nutrition in adolescents may be caused by the exposure to unhealthy convenient dietary choices, in addition to the sedentary lifestyle and lesser physical activities during quarantine. SCOPH CIMSA UPH as a standing committee on public health has gained a responsibility to be a reminder for adolescents in improving better qualities on their awareness towards nutrition and health. Therefore, an annual event called ‘Hari Gizi Nasional’ was established, to introduce and guide adolescents in preparing effortless, unexpensive, yet healthy day-to-day nourishment. The objective of this celebration attempts to show that healthy foods are not always expensive and not always difficult to cook and that sticking out unto healthy dietary patterns does not have to be exhausting.

The Hari Gizi Nasional celebration was held in three different occasions through the first and second air campaign, followed by a webinar. During 25th of January 2021, the whole committee proclaimed air campaign as an acknowledgment for public society, regarding the maintenance of a balanced diet in daily life. On 30th January 2021, a webinar which raised the topic about “Future Starts from Food” was held for adolescents. The second air campaign was meant to be the implication of healthy dietary patterns, done together with the participants of SCOPH’s previous webinar during 1st until 6th of February 2021.

Looking towards healthy dietary habits may seem insignificant and unimportant but these are the small things that gives great impact on health maintenance. Hereby, SCOPH CIMSA UPH emphasize the importance of healthy eating habits and practices, dedicated to adolescents in Indonesia as the main purpose of Hari Gizi Nasional celebration held on this year.
