HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) have become global emergency problems. Worldwide, 35 people are living with HIV and 19 million people do not know their HIV positive status (UNAIDS, 2014). In the Asian region, most HIV prevalence rates in the general population are still low, namely <1%, except in Thailand and North India (Ministry of Health, 2013). In 2012, it was estimated that in Asia Pacific there were 350,000 people newly infected with HIV and around 64% of people infected with HIV were men (UNAIDS, 2013).
Even though counseling about HIV/AIDS has been carried out, the number of people who have taken an HIV test is still relatively low. First, not many people realize that HIV/ASID actually threatens all of us, so those who feel that they are not behaving at risk of contracting HIV do not think it is necessary to take an HIV test. Second, the stigma attached to HIV and AIDS is so strong that many people who want to know their HIV status fail to take tests for reasons of embarrassment, reluctance, fear, and so on (Kapeta Foundation, 2012).
Therefore, SCORA CIMSA UNEJ held an activity called HEARTH (High Prevention and Break The Stigma of HIV and AIDS through Fact) in order to conduct a campaign to celebrate World AIDS Day 2022. This activity was held for 1 months from 1st until 30th December 2022.
The activity began with a social media campaign in the form of a video recap of the previous years' WAD celebrations. The recap video was uploaded on December 1st, 2022, at the time of the WAD celebration. On December 3, 2022, LPET was held with Fajarica Indah Rahmasari (PETRA CIMSA UNEJ) as the speaker. the topic of the LPET is HIV AIDS and Other STI's. LPET is held offline at FK UNEJ.
On December 4th, 2022, a ground campaign was held at the Jember City Square. CIMSA UNEJ members succeeded in educating around 20 people in the community. In this ground campaign, not only HEARTH’s OC, but CIMSA UNEJ Newbie also participated in education about HIV and AIDS. This event was closed by uploading a recap video on instagram. Overall, HEARTH (High Prevention and Break The Stigma of HIV and AIDS through Fact) activities went well.
