"Do you understand this part?" "Can I pass these exams and get a good score?" are questions that often come to the minds of first year students of UPH faculty of medicine, who are experiencing the last week of their FMS 1 block whilst preparing to take their block exams.
MCQ exam is inexplicably one of the most feared exams by medical students in every passing block regardless of the year. One of the main reasons of fear for the new medical students is because, the first-year students have yet to adapt to the learning system in the faculty of medicine. Moreover, the block FMS 1 is deemed to be difficult for medical students, Hence, they are more likely to feel anxious and afraid of obtaining low grades, especially due to limited resources during online learning.
To solve this problem, SCOME CIMSA UPH x HRD Team prepared a special event for the new members of CIMSA UPH called EAGLE (Educational Academic Guidance for Learning Enrichment) FMS 1 in collaboration with this year’s HDN (Hari Dokter Nasional) with the topic “Becoming a Good Health Professional”.
The event aims to help new members of CIMSA UPH, mainly those who find it difficult during their FMS 1 studies. Thereby, this month’s EAGLE discusses the topic: FMS 1 or fundamental medical science 1, in which, the block focuses on basic concepts and understanding of cellular and molecular biology, genetics, and fundamental basic principles of cellular function.
EAGLE FMS 1 was held at the end of November 2020 with trained tutors and module guides at hand. Participants were divided into several small groups consisting of 8 participants with 1-2 tutors which were senior CIMSA UPH members.
Each group will then determine a scheduled class at least one week before the exams and in each session, participants will be given materials regarding FMS 1 that needs to be studied by referring to the EAGLE module, with a duration of 90 minutes, as well as a try out at the end of every session to measure how far have they understood the said materials.
This event was curated in hopes that the first years can improve themselves by developing a good learning method, achieve a satisfying score, and strengthen their relationship with seniors of CIMSA UPH.
We wish these first years the best of luck for their block exams, and hope to prepare them for many more.
