HANTAM!
(Handling, Educating, and Beating Sexual Violences with SCORA & SCORP CIMSA UNAND)
SCORA&SCORP CIMSA-BEM KM FK UNAND
Based on UN WOMEN's data, before the COVID-19 pandemic, violence against women was one of the most wide-ranging violations of human rights, with nearly 18% of women and girls experiencing physical or sexual violence by their intimate partner per year. As the pandemic keeps rising, so does the reporting of violence in households, on the streets, and in cyberspace. Calls to helplines increased by fivefold in some countries during the first weeks of the COVID-19 outbreak.
According to UNICEF, violence and exposure to violence in the family context are among the most severe forms of oppression in terms of frequency and impact. The estimated worldwide prevalence in self-report surveys is 22.6% for physical abuse, 36.3% for emotional abuse, 7.6% among boys and 18% among women for sexual abuse, 16.3 % for physical neglect, and 18.4% for emotional neglect. This high level of violence reveals that interpersonal violence against children is also a severe social and global health problem.
Therefore, SCORA & SCORP CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand designed an activity to beats and prevented sexual violence known as HANTAM!. HANTAM! has a goal to provide knowledge to SCORA and SCORP members regarding sexual violence against women and children so that later it can be shared and explained to children aged 10-18 years in the community area who are expected to increase their knowledge thus they can be the more frontline to any sexual acts of violence that happens to be around them.
This activity’s consisted of 1st Pre-Intervention, 2nd Pre-Intervention, and 1st Intervention. On February 6th, 2021, SCORA & SCORP CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand has held the 1st pre-intervention of HANTAM!. In this Intervention, an initial assessment was carried out to determine which areas in the community have standard knowledge of sexual violence. This time we chose students from SMAN 5 Padang to be our target.
The 2nd Pre-Intervention was held on February 13th, 2021, when members underwent training regarding Rap Culture and Online Gender-Based Violence issues. Citra Benazir delivered the training from Hollaback! Jakarta and Nenden S. Arum from SAFEnet as a Non-Governmental Organization on defending human rights.
The 1st Intervention was held on February 27th, 2021. In this Intervention, we did some activities. First, we start with games and bonding with students from SMAN 5 Padang. We delivered a presentation regarding Rap Culture and Online Gender-Based Violence issues to students from SMAN 5 Padang. As a closure, we had a Small Working Group (SWG) about the topics being taught before. We also gave a pre-test and post-test to measure the improvements within the student’s knowledge on Rap Culture and Online Gender-Based Violence issues.
We hope, through this activity, the awareness and knowledge of students from SMAN 5 Padang regarding sexual violence against women and children, especially in the increase during the COVID-19 pandemic, and they would be likely to share it with anyone around them.
