(Behind a Pandemic: Full Landfill)

SCORP CIMSA UNAIR

This pandemic condition has an impact on increasing waste generation, especially plastic waste. Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia stated that domestic plastic waste increased from 1-5 to 5-10 grams per day per individual due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Most of the plastic waste comes from the use of single-use plastics from packaged food. During the pandemic, much everything was done online, for example, buying and selling, which resulted in a large amount of plastic waste from packaging goods becoming waste in households.
For this event, SCORP CIMSA UNAIR conducted a primary assessment by spreading a form to 67 respondents 46 respondents (68.7%) felt that they delivered food/beverages more frequently, and 57 respondents (85.1%) felt they were shopping online more frequently during the pandemic. This is because the community is encouraged to reduce physical contact with other people during the pandemic and online shopping activities, which are considered more practical.
Concluding from the data we got, many students and the public had online shopping more often and tended to produce waste. HANDFUL (Behind The Pandemic: Full Landfill) aims to increase the knowledge and concern of CIMSA UNAIR SCORP members and the public regarding the increasing waste during the COVID-19 pandemic. The project series consists of two event days and an educational video on-air campaign posted by members of SCORP CIMSA UNAIR.

On Saturday, 10th of April 2021, SCORP and SCOME CIMSA UNAIR held collaborative upgrading to prepare SCORP members for HANDFUL and SIGNAL. The upgrading consisted of material about waste by Maasa Sunreza, then filled with material training on sign language by JBI.

On Saturday, the second day of HANDFUL, 1st of  May 2021, SCORP CIMSA UNAIR held a webinar moderated by Primadita Syahbani as Vice LORP for Internal Affairs CIMSA UNAIR 2020-2021. In addition, Nada Arini delivered the topic "Issues of The Waste Sector During a Pandemic" as Founder Sustainable Indonesia. Ikbal Alexander from Kertabumi Recycling center talked about "Recycling Waste" in a workshop session.
The impact of this event was seen on the high grade from the pre-test to post-test and from the evaluation form given. Therefore, we hope that participants will understand more about the impact of increased waste during a pandemic and how to minimize and overcome it after the event.
