During this tenure, SCOPH CIMSA UNAIR continues the Community Development Project called GULALI (Gerakan Penanggulangan Diabetes Mellitus / Diabetes Mellitus Prevention Movement) which has been held for 4 years. This tenure, the project is divided into two main interventions, precisely on November 27th, 2022, and February 26th, 2023, held offline at Balai RW 7 Pacar Kembang village, Surabaya. On the first intervention of this tenure, we brought Diabetes Exercise followed by a Free Medical Check Up for the community members and the public. There were more than 30 participants who attended and enjoyed the activity.

A day before the intervention, the community members were given an e-handbook consisting of knowledge of diabetes mellitus in general and some information regarding the diabetes exercise via WhatsApp group. Along with that, we also send the community members a pretest to fill out beforehand. On the d-day, there were reviews about the e-handbook by the MC and a diabetes exercise conducted by Shery Iris Zalillah, an exercise instructor who specialized in diabetes mellitus exercise. She explained about the suitable exercise for diabetes mellitus and demonstrated it very well that the participants followed happily. After the participants were given some time to rest, they had to fill out the post-test and at the same time, they queued for their turn to do the free medical check-up. The medical checkup consisted of blood pressure, gout rate, blood sugar check, and direct result consultation with dr. Dinda Puspita and dr. Naomi Rahmasena, as the senior of CIMSA UNAIR.

Meanwhile, on the second intervention of the tenure, we are going to conduct a seminar about suitable diets for diabetes mellitus patients with dr. Batari Retno Minanti SpPD FINASIM as the speaker and food decorating contest for the community members. We also made a logbook for each member of GULALI’s community as their follow-up activity. The logbook consists of their data & medical check-up results. At the end of the tenure, we will give a special prize to one community member with the complete logbook and the most active during the series of interventions.

We hope by doing this series of interventions, could be beneficial to everyone by increasing the knowledge and awareness about diabetes mellitus and health in general, and also to help those people who have diabetes mellitus through this community that we support.
