Diabetes is still one of non communicable disease that giving the most complication and death in the world. Indonesia it self ranked 7th worlwide for having diabetic. On , Saturday, 31 October 2020 SCOPH CIMSA Universitas Airlangga  held its annual event , GULALI (Gerakan Penanganggulangan Diabetes).

GULALI itself its a community development, where we tried to improve the health quality in a community with many ways, such as improving knowledge and improving skill in a community. From data that we got from Public Health Office of Surabaya, Surabaya is one of the city that has the highest diabetic prevalence, and there are five sub-district in Surabaya that has the highest. They are sub-district Sidotopo, Pacar keling, Wono Kusumo, Kebon sari and Manukan Kulon. GULALI has been done for two years in sub-district Pacar Keling. For this year we tried to intervene in district Manukan Kulon, so we collaborate with youth organization in Manukan Kulon and its surrounding.

GULALI theme for this year is Preventing Diabetes by Reducing Risk factor During Pandemic. We choosed that because in this pandemic of COVID-19 many of those who died from infection are they who have this comorbid. So we decided to intervene in these areas in order to reduce diabetes rates as well as prevent diabetes during this pandemic.

On our first intervention we did bonding together with cadres. First, we started the event by holding introductory sessions and games to cadres. The games are to guess the image of the artist and the cadres was very enthusiastic in participating.

After that, it was continued with the main event, namely the provision of material about diabetes, that are risk factors and how to prevent it by Doctor Hamidah, Sp.PD from PERSADIA (Persatuan Diabetes Indonesia). Before being given the material, the cadres were given a pre test to measure the cadres' level of knowledge about diabetes. During the presentation session the cadres listened very well. After that, we held question and answer session to Dr. Hamidah and a post test to measure the cadres' abilities after being given the material. Almost all of the cadres increased in knowledge from 86% to 100%.

The event closed with a group photo and we will meet cadres at the next intervention! We hope the material can be useful for cadres and applied in everyday life.
