Childhood stunting is one of the most significant impediments to human development, globally affecting approximately 162 million children under five years. Stunting, or being too short for one's age, is defined as a height that is more than two standard deviations below the World Health Organization (WHO) child growth standards median. If current trends continue, projections indicate that 127 million children under five years will be stunted in 2025. Therefore, further investment and action are necessary to attain the 2025 World Health Assembly to reduce that number to 100 million.

UNICEF Indonesia said that the rate of malnutrition is predicted to increase by 15% (7 million) worldwide during the COVID-19 pandemic. Malnutrition is widespread due to natural disasters, one of which is a pandemic where the supply of food and health services is not disrupted.  (UNICEF, 2020). The prevalence of short and very short toddlers in 2018 is 30.8%, where West Sumatra province ranks 15th with the highest stunting rate in children under five and 13th with the highest stunting rate in Baduta (Riskesdas, 2018)
