EARTH DAY-COVER
(COVID-19 and the Environment)
SCORP CIMSA FK UNS
Since the beginning of 2020, the world has been shocked by the coronavirus outbreak, which originated in China. Precisely on Wednesday, 11th March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. Since then, the whole world has been obliged to maintain health protocols to reduce further impacts and anticipate the spread of COVID-19. COVID-19 has changed many things, including our daily lifestyle. To celebrate Earth Day commemorated every 22nd April, SCORP CIMSA FK UNS held an event called COVER (COVID-19 and the Environment). COVER was a project whose intention was to raise awareness and knowledge about the environment and waste during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
This event contained two main activities, which were pre-activity training and an air campaign. COVER was held from 25th April and ended on 3rd May 2021. In this project, SCORP CIMSA UNS collaborated with IAAS, Greevo, and Vagus as community partners, and BebasSampah.ID.
Pre-activity training was held on 25th April and delivered by our Human Rights Education Facilitators, Vidya Hemalina and Maurilla Iascha, to prepare volunteers for doing an air campaign. The pre-activity training started at 9 am talked about environmental issues during Pandemic and was joined by SCORP CIMSA UNS members and community partners' delegates. The air campaign was held from 26th April until 3rd May 2021 and was joined by all volunteers via Instagram story. There were approximately 27 volunteers joined each day. First, volunteers had to post about their insight from pre-activity training. The next day, they had to repost Words of Peace from CIMSA UNS's feeds. There were true-false posts and its discussion for the third day, and for the fourth day, they had to post a BINGO. On the fifth day, there was an infographic post from SCORP CIMSA UNS collaborating with BebasSampah.ID. For the last two days, volunteers had to post a campaign twibbon on Instagram story contained their photos while doing some activities based on a theme that the committee has provided.
By organizing COVER, SCORP CIMSA UNS hopes that society can improve their awareness and knowledge about environmental sustainability during the COVID-19 Pandemic. We also hope that from now on, volunteers can educate others about daily wastes management, especially personal protective equipment.
