(Diabetes Please Go!)

SCOPH CIMSA UNSOED

World Health Organization (WHO) 2016 said that 70% of the death number in the world is caused by non-communicable diseases. One of the non-communicable diseases is diabetes and death due to diabetes itself has increased from 6,9% in 2013 to 8,5% in 2018 according to the data from Dinas Kesehatan Provinsi Jawa Tengah. The prevalence of diabetes in Banyumas is around 2.596 cases. Because of this reason, SCOPH CIMSA Unsoed has decided to hold an activity to commemorate World Diabetes Day named Diabetes Please Go! (DIEGO) to raise people's awareness about diabetes and its prevention.

The activity consists of two main events, which are training and campaign. The training was held on December 12th, 2019 at the 3rd-semester classroom of Medical Faculty Jenderal Soedirman University. The training began at 18.30 and lasted until 21.00. The speaker is Naufal Dzulhijar as IFMSA-Certified Public Health Leader (PHL) who talked about diabetes, Gerakan Masyarakat Sehat (GERMAS), and Isi Piringku. The aim of this training is to give prior knowledge before the campaign. Besides that, we also practiced how to conduct the glucose test and did a technical briefing for the campaign. The members were excited to know more about diabetes and actively asked the speaker.

The next event is the campaign. The DIEGO campaign was held on December 15th, 2019 at Karangwangkal. We also invited members of the Family Welfare Programme. The campaign lasted from 14.00 until 17.00. In the campaign, we held free medical check-up which consisted of height, weight, waist size, blood pressure, and glucose test. All of the results were recorded on the medical sheets as information to be used for research in the future. The participants were also educated by us, about how to prevent diabetes according to their results. Then, we also invited dr. Lily Kusumasita Burkon, M. K. K. to educate society more about diabetes and how to prevent it with GERMAS and Isi Piringku. The Family Welfare Programme was interested in the discussion and they used this opportunity to ask the doctor actively. In this event, we also have the slogan “Keluarga Bebas Diabetes? Sehat dan Ceria”.

We hope this activity can increase people's awareness about diabetes and how they can prevent this disease from the smallest environment of their life, especially the family environment. We also hope that people can implement GERMAS and Isi Piringku from now on to decrease the risk factor to be affected by diabetes.
