SCOPE CIMSA UIN
Last Monday night on March, 26th 2018, SCOPE CIMSA UIN held a project called CHEESE (Cheers With English), in our Community Development Village. In this project, we taught the children the basic vocabularies of English themed animal and occupation. The participants was varies, starting from 5-11 years old, from kindergarten to elementary school. The total amount of the participants was 55 kids, and it exceeded out expectations that was only 40 kids.
English is the most used international language that’s been used by people around the world. Nowadays English can be found almost everywhere in Indonesia and the world. Starting from games, music, textbook, even a restaurant or café, most of them at least use an English word. This shows that English is one of the most used language that needs to be learned so that we can face the changes of the world and technology development.
First, we did a pretest so we would know the average ability of the kids. And then, we did the English teaching by divided them into 2 groups, and we taught them in a fun way. The first group theme is the occupation, and the second one is the animal. Then, in every group, the teacher will show them the picture of the animal and the occupation, and asked the kids what’s the English of this, and then spell the vocabularies together. And after that, our SCOPE member asked the volunteered participants to review the lessons, and gave them the reward of the most active. Also we did the post test to measure if there’s any enhancement of English vocabularies from the kids.
The kids looked very excited in learning English by study with this method, and they were able to memorise all the words that we taught to them. SCOPE CIMSA UIN is also looking forward for another companionship with this Community Development Village!
