CHEESE 1st INTERVENTION

(Cheers With English)

SCOPE CIMSA UIN SH

To increase medical students' knowledge and interest in English, we had organized our Sustainable Project Cheers with English (CHEESE). On February 19th,  2021, SCOPE CIMSA FK UIN SH held its first CHEESE intervention, which was carried out online through a zoom meeting, and there were 20 FK UIN students batch 2020.

This activity begins with a speech by LEO SCOPE. Then participants fill in the pre-test for 10 minutes. The next activity was a presentation to all participants regarding the history of present illness by the resource person, dr. Bisatyo Mardjikoen, Sp. OT. The material's presentation is about onset, position, quality, radiation, relieving & aggravating factors, treatment, timing, and associated symptoms. After everything was clear, participants asked several questions about the material and answered by the resource person. We did a game session for 10 minutes related to the topic to make the atmosphere even more fun. Next, the participants were guided by the committee into the breakout room determined for anamnesis exercise together with the CHEESE 2019 cadres for 15 minutes.

After entering the breakout room, the participants were given several clues about the case by CHEESE cadres. Students will act like doctors, and their cadres act as patients who were doing anamnesis, of course, in English. The progress was quite good in anamnesis and also their improvement in English. Judging from the way they use the vocabulary is quite good, and their speaking skills are excellent.

The 1st  intervention of CHEESE went very well; we hope that this event can improve their ability in anamnesis and their professionalism as prospective doctors, especially in speaking English.

We hope that SCOPE CIMSA FK UIN SH, with this activity, has managed to improve the students’ understanding of the subject better and increase their interest in learning English. We hope that we can continue to make English fun and engaging for the students, and motivate them to use English more, not just during this event but also in their daily life.
