CEPHALIC
(Celebrate National Health and Doctor’s Day with SCOME)
SCOME CIMSA UNAIR
Not all pre-clinical students are ready to undergo the clinical stage medical education. Not many medical students are willing to work in peripheral areas rather than big cities. However, two of these contributes to the quality of our nation’s health. To achieve a better nation’s health, a good human resources in health that has great medical and soft skills would be needed.
Previously, SCOME CIMSA UNAIR conducted a survey to medical students in FK UNAIR to measure their level of knowledge and collect their opinions about basic medical skills, clinical stage education, and the condition of doctors working in rural and urban areas. We found that there were students who hadn’t been able to implement basic medical skills taught in 2nd semester because of online learning in the middle of pandemic. We also found many 2nd year students don’t know the basic medical skills that will be taught in 3rd semester. So, basic medical skills training and information about the differences between doctors in rural and urban areas are needed.
SCOME CIMSA UNAIR organizes events called CEPHALIC (Celebrate National Health and Doctor's Day with SCOME) 2020 to commemorate National Doctor's Day.
CEPHALIC was held for 2 days on 24 and 25 October 2020 through zoom meeting. On the first day, we held basic medical skills training which was attended by 2nd year medical students in FK UNAIR. This activity began with some insight provided by two great speakers, Faizah Sugiharto and Ikhsanuddin Qoth’i. Furthermore, the participants were divided into several breakout rooms to practice the medical skills directly.
On the second day, a talkshow was held about "Becoming A Good Health Professional" with two topics. The first is "Effective Preparation for Becoming a Clinical Stage Student" delivered by Robby Azhari, S. Ked, clinical student in RSUD Dr. Soetomo, Alumni Member of SCOME CIMSA UNAIR. The second topic is "The Difference of Doctors Who Work in Hospitals in Rural and Urban Areas" delivered by dr. Andre Bayu Nugroho and dr. Abdul Jabbar Al-Hayyan, Sp. KFR. SCOME CIMSA UNAIR also gave appreciation to 11 departments in FK UNAIR by sending each doctor a greeting card.
The impact of the event measured from post test scores and evaluation form given to the participants. After this event, we hope that medical students, as prospective doctor, will continue to be a lifelong learner and aware about health-related issues to become a good doctor.
