World Health Organization (WHO) in 2015 showed that around 1.13 billion people in the world have hypertension, meaning that 1 in 3 people in the world is diagnosed with hypertension. The number of people with hypertension continues to increase every year. It is estimated that by 2025 there will be 1.5 billion people affected by hypertension, and it is estimated that every year 10.44 million people die from hypertension and its complications.

Nationally, the results of Riskesdas 2018 show that the prevalence of people with high blood pressure is 34.11%. The prevalence in urban areas was slightly higher (34.43%) than in rural areas (33.72%). The prevalence increases with age.

Health Profile of the City of Padang 2018 shows that most diseases in 2018 are still the same as in 2017; based on the Puskesmas report summarized through the E-Puskesmas application, the most diseases based on Puskesmas visits in Padang City in 2018 are URTI (30.87%), followed by hypertension (22.05%) and dyspepsia (9.32%).

Therefore, CIMSA - BEM KM FK Unand raised a Community Development called “CARDIAC” as a form of preventive activities against hypertension cases. At CARDIAC, an approach is made with the community to encourage people to start healthy lives to prevent and control hypertension.

On January 17, 2021, CARDIAC members received material from West Sumatra IDI, namely dr. Dewi Susanti Febri, M.Biomed, Sp.GK regarding Hypertension and How to Prevent and Control It, especially during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Giving of materials was also greeted enthusiastically by the members and is expected to increase the knowledge of members CARDIAC.

The next intervention was held on January 25, 2021, namely material counseling by CARDIAC members, namely Angelly Wulan Suci and Rafi Zulkha, to the target, namely women aged 30-60 years in the Parak Karakah area. After the material was given, we did a game called “guess the picture and guess the price” to emotionally approach the target.

The CARDIAC activities were closed with the formation of 5 CARDIAC cadres who would later be empowered. We hope that CARDIAC can continue to be carried out sustainably to prevent and control hypertension by triggering a good lifestyle.
