Mental illness is a health condition that affects thoughts, feelings, behavior, mood, or a combination of these. This mental illness can occur in all groups, including children, teenagers, adults and the elderly. Based on Basic Health Research by the Ministry of Health (2018), the prevalence of mental illness among those aged 15 years and over reached 9.8% of the population, and this figure has increased compared to 2013 which was 6%. The prevalence of depression at the age of 15 years and over reaches 6.1% of the population, and the prevalence of schizophrenia is 7 per 1000 population. From this data, we can see that the level of mental disorders is quite high, especially in teenagers and young adults.

Therefore, SCOPH CIMSA UNEJ held an activity called CALM (Coping with Anxiety through Learning and Mindfulness Training During College). This activity was held to commemorate World Mental Health Day  (WMHD) 2023. CALM consists of several series of events, there are pre-activity training, seminars, talk show, and mindfulness training.

Pre-activity training was held on November 4th, 2023 at University of Jember Faculty of Medicine. This pre-activity training was attended by SCOPH CIMSA UNEJ members and Officials CIMSA UNEJ with speakers Diah Ayuningtyas as PHL SCOPH CIMSA UNEJ. This pre-activity training discussed “Mental Health in Students”.

The main event of CALM is a seminar, talk show and mindfulness training, on November 5 2023 and attended by 53 Jember University students. This seminar discusses "The Anxiety Saga" with dr. Inke Kusumastuti, M.Biomed., Sp.KJ from RSUD dr. Soebandi as speaker. The talk show and mindfulness training discussed "Anxiety Management" with speaker Nadia Maria, M.Psi. from Garwita Institute. At this main event, we also held a letter writing event containing motivation which would then be exchanged randomly to strangers. Overall, CALM (Coping with Anxiety through Learning and Mindfulness Training During College) activities are going well.
