BCAM 2020
(Breast Cancer Awareness Month)
SCORA CIMSA FK UNS
Every year in October, SCORA always holds a BCAM (Breast Cancer Awareness Month) to participate in World Breast Cancer Care Month. Even though it took place from their respective homes due to the pandemic, BCAM still focused on increasing the knowledge, awareness, and concern of the Indonesian people, especially members of the SCORA CIMSA FK UNS and medical students regarding breast cancer and the importance of BSE preventive measures (Breast Self- Examination).
According to the 2018 Global Cancer Observatory data from WHO (World Health Organization), the most common cancer cases in Indonesia are breast cancer with a presentation of 16.7% of the total 348,809 cancer cases. Meanwhile, other facts show the progress of the treatment of breast cancer cases will increase if the disease is not known as early as possible. The sooner the health worker detected and supported, the greater chance of recovery itself. For this reason, we are increasingly convinced that this project is very important to be done and let us through this small step can participate and help in advance to the quality of health and welfare of the nation.
Furthermore, BCAM held a Webinar with the topic of ‘Breast Cancer: New Normal New Lifestyle’ on October 4th, 2020. This webinar was open to public and supported by the Surakarta branch of the Indonesian Cancer Foundation and Lovely Pink Solo. The first material presented by Dr. dr. Kristanto Yuli Yarsa, Sp.B (K)Onk, gave us a lot of knowledge and understanding both theoretically and practically from his experiences while handling breast cancer-related cases.
The second material about the struggles and journey of survivors from the beginning of their diagnosis until now in the pandemic era, was delivered by Mrs. Risna and Mrs. Adriyati as secretary and treasurer of Lovely Pink Solo. Both doctors and great mothers always gave messages, underlined, and made us aware about the importance of the realization of BSE and its education to be disseminated to the wider community, especially those we care about.
Finally, BCAM held a ‘Box of Love’ air campaign which took place on 5th – 11th October 2020 on Instagram of each member and CIMSA UNS official account. The campaign aims to disseminate information about the importance of early detection of breast cancer to the public and provide support to sufferers and survivors as outlined in photos and caption feeds.
