BCAM 2020
(Breast Cancer Awareness Month)
RACO MMSA UMY & SCORA CIMSA UNSOED
This year, on 23rd of October 2020, Reproductive Health and Rights including HIV & AIDS Committee (RACO) MMSA UMY commemorated the Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) entitled ‘RESCUE: Remind Each Other, Aware the Breast Cancer’. The aim of this program is to raise the public awareness and increase the public's knowledge about breast cancer.
The reason for holding RESCUE is related to the lack of information about breast cancer from women and rumors about breast cancer from men. We can take an example that men cannot get breast cancer, yet in fact, it is not true. Early menstruation, late menopause, and family history can lead to breast cancer. These are examples of risk factors of breast cancer, and perhaps it is the first time that you had it can be passed down to your gene. The targets of this webinar are for teenagers, elder people, and women to be warned about acknowledging the possibility or presence of breast cancer.
This program was conducted by joining the Ribbon in Pink Challenge, making a ‘Myth or Fact’ quiz, conducting a collaboration with CIMSA UNSOED to organize the Webinar which was called ‘PROBIOTICS: Protect Your Breast, Do the Test'’ with speakers dr. Lopo Triyanto, Sp.B (K) Onk, FINACS from Perhimpunan Ahli Bedah Onkologi Indonesia (PERABOI), Ibu Laksmi Notokusumo and Ibu Shinta Murnisari as a breast cancer survivor from Lovepink, and last but not least making a video about ‘Their Story’ with Ibu Rahayu as a breast cancer survivor from Lovepink.
Webinar session with Ibu Laksmi Notokusumo from Lovepink
We uploaded a twibbon for Ribbon in Pink Challenge with a pose that signature breast cancer awareness along with an infographic that contained information about ‘What is Breast Cancer, How to Detect Early Breast Cancer (SADARI And SADANIS), What are The Risks, Signs, and Symptoms’. What is Lovepink? Well, it is a social movement initiated by two friends who managed to survive breast cancer. PROBIOTICS was organized by Annanisa Ilma Putriherlina as Project Officer and LORA of CIMSA UNSOED, Muhammad Rashidi Arahim as Project Officer of UMY, and Vita Fatimah as Ministry of RACO UMY. We used primary data from pre-test and post-test using a Google Form to collect information on how well people know about breast cancer and social media like Instagram to share information about myths and facts about breast cancer. Still, this program was not like a class or lecture, it was more than that. For the Webinar, we target 50 people to participate in this Webinar and it turned out into 278 participants, and for the IgTV, by the time the article was made it had reached 388 viewers already. As a sign for participation, We also provided an e-certificate for participants who have attended the Webinar as well as sharing the seminar materials’ presentation from the speakers.
