There are 14.000 refugees from around 40 countries who are currently recorded as being accommodated in Indonesia. Many of them fled to save themselves and their families because of the conflict and then sought asylum in other countries.

Refugees are the most vulnerable groups during the COVID-19 pandemic. Difficulty in obtaining information due to language barrier is the main barrier for refugees to access assistance, services and ways to protect themselves from the dangers of the virus. The conditions of social restrictions to lockdown also disturb the government and international institutions to meet the needs of refugees.

Due to this problem, SCORP CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand held an activity called BARBIE or 'Bantu Refugees Bersama Kami'. It’s an activity in the form of campaign and celebration to celebrate the International Day of Peace, as well as raising issues related to the situation of refugees during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The goals is to hold an air campaigns and training related to the health and rights of refugees during the COVID-19 pandemic for at least 25 active SCORP members (Batch 2018 & 2019) as measured by pre-test & post-test with an average final score of 80 held on September to October 2020.

This activity consists of 3 parts. The first part is training which was delivered by HRT to SCORP CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand’s members about ‘Refugees & COVID-19’ on September 19th, and ‘The Right to Health’ on September 29th, 2020. Through BARBIE we increased the pre-test and post-test score to 97,5 on the first training and 96 on the second training.

The second part is an air campaign which was carried out through the Instagram story of CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand account and SCORP members account. It was held in 3 days from September 19th until 21st, 2020 and consisted of fun facts, infographics, and scramble word.

The last part is radio broadcast, which was held on October 4th 2020. The speaker was Mr. Sultanul Arifin S.Sos., M.H. who is the Head of the West Sumatra Komnas HAM office. Mr. Sultan was invited to discuss about the rights and health of refugees during the COVID-19 pandemic, accompanied by our SCORP members, Khairunnisa. This broadcast was held on STAR Radio which is the Official Partner of CIMSA-BEM KM FK Unand.

Hopefully, this activity can improve members and the public knowledge about the problems experienced by refugees in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
