Hello, CIMSA !
Most people in Indonesia still have low knowledge about comprehensive sexuality education, maternal health, sexual and gender identity, gender based violence & HIV and other STIs. Many Indonesian people think that sex is A taboo. They also usually always think that sexual education always leads to pornography. In fact, sexual education is actually needed by the Indonesian people from an early age. Not only that, Indonesian people also still have a minimal knowledge about sexually transmitted diseases.
In addition to sexual education and sexually transmitted diseases, Indonesian society is also still less sensitive about the maternal health. The maternal mortality rate in Indonesia has increased dramatically every year. Based on DataIndonesia.id, 7,389 mothers in Indonesia died in 2021. This number increased by 59.69% compared to the previous year. This is due to the low knowledge of Indonesian people regarding the importance of knowledge about maternal health.
Regarding issues surrounding gender-based violence, Komnas Perempuan recorded 338,496 cases of gender-based violence (GBV) against women in 2021 and increased by 80% from 2020. This figure is a number that is concerning for women. However, it is not only women who can be exposed to violence, but men can also get any sexual violence in everyday life. Sexual and gender identity in Indonesia is also very often considered a bad thing by the majority of Indonesian citizens. Most of them still think that people who belong to the LGBTQ+ community are humans who have a disease, even though this is actually not a disease.
Seeing the lack of attention from the Indonesian people towards these various problems, SCORA CIMSA UPH decided to hold LPET (Local Peer Education Training) training with the name BANGING SCORA (Basic of SCORA & Peer Education Training) on November 10th 2022. This activity was divided into 2 sessions. The first session was "SCORA 101", in this session active members of SCORA CIMSA UPH were taught about SCORA and also explained about SCORA's work area, namely comprehensive sexuality education, maternal health, sexual and gender identity, gender based violence & HIV and other STIs . The second session was "Peer Educator Training", in this session active members of SCORA CIMSA UPH were trained to become good Peer Educators in order to educate peers and the surrounding community in an informal context regarding the problems that exist in SCORA's work area.
With the BANGING SCORA (Basic of SCORA & Peer Educator Training) activity, it is hoped that active members of SCORA CIMSA UPH can gain more in-depth knowledge about SCORA and can become good Peer Educators for our peers and the community around us so that we can open our minds they are broader and for the sake of improving the Indonesian state.
