Dear, Indonesian medical students!

The call for the IFMSA delegation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change - Conference of Parties 27, taking place in Sharm ElSheikh, Egypt from the 6th of November - 18th of November 2022 is finally opened!

Why COP?

Arising from the disastrous impact of climate change on all sectors in this planet, the need for global collective action on climate change has arisen, requiring a multi-sectoral approach that involves all key stakeholders, including vulnerable groups, to work together against climate change.

In 2015, the Paris agreement took place aiming to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees and providing a pivotal moment for all parties to start working on their nationally determined contributions to reducing their emissions and preserving the planet and its ecosystems. However, commitments have not been transformed into actions, thus jeopardizing the whole ecosystem at unprecedented rates.

As a result, COP is held every year, bringing together parties and observers including UN and specialized agencies, IGOs, and NGOs, with the aim of addressing the climate crisis in a more sustainable and action-based manner

Why IFMSA in COP27?

The IFMSA, as an organization that unites medical students for global health and represents more than 1.3 million of them, believes in the importance of our contribution to climate action. This has been evident in our internal and external efforts on climate change over the years, nationally, regionally, and internationally.

There is no global health, without adequate focus on the biggest threat to humanity: The climate crisis. This highlights the need for our urgent and sustainable contributions to climate action, which includes our advocacy at COP.
