Dear Indonesian Medical Students,

We are beyond pleased to announce that IFMSA has been invited to participate in the 75th WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia, which will take place from 5 – 9 September in Thimphu, Bhutan.

What is the Regional Committee?

The Regional Committee (RC) is the decision-making body of the respective regions, where member states convene to discuss health issues pertinent to the region. The Regional Committee meets every year to formulate policies, provide oversight for regional programmes, hear progress reports, and consider, revise and endorse new initiatives. It adopts resolutions and makes decisions that guide the work of the Regional Office and country offices for the coming year. The WHO South-East Asia Region has 11 Member States - Bangladesh, Bhutan, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Timor-Leste.

IFMSA, as an officially recognised non-state actor, is able to send delegates to give our perspectives on agenda points. Applicants from NMOs that are in the WHO South-East Asia region will be prioritised in this selection.

How to apply as a delegate?

  • Fill out the application form (link

    • Which meeting/conference are you applying to: 75th WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia

  • Submit a signed and stamped candidature form (here)

    • Send your request for signed and stamped candidature through NMO President by August 6th 2022, 23:59 GMT+7

  • Complete the application form and stamped candidature form submission by 7th of August at 23:59 GMT

The delegation shall be chosen by the Regional Director, approved by the Executive Board, and announced after the application deadline.

Important Note: If chosen, the transportation and accommodation have to be covered and organized by the delegates themselves.

Kindly note that according to the pandemic situation, the format of the event may change from onsite to online. In such a case, we will inform all selected delegates about the change.

What are we looking for in a delegate?

The delegates shall assist in all preparations for and execution of activities at the Regional Committee. This includes preparing statements, helping with negotiations, attending and reporting from relevant side events, and much, much more. Hence, the people we are looking for roughly correspond to this list:

  • Responsible, hard-working individuals

  • Ideally with some experience in external representation

  • Ideally with some expertise in one of the topics relevant to the current WHO SEARO work

  • IFMSA experience, at least to some extent

  • Someone with a clear plan on how to follow up on their experience in the delegation

  • Availability before the meeting to participate in the preparations

IFMSA will seek to ensure gender and sub-regional balance in choosing the delegation. We would also like to encourage less experienced participants to apply - knowledge transfer is a goal in and of itself for us.
