SGP is an abbreviation for SCORE Goes Public which is one of the national projects from Standing Committee on Research Exchange (SCORE). SGP consist of some levels and SGP Extreme is the top level of SGP which took place in SCORE locals from Sumatra and Java. SGP Extreme is an annual National Project with different themes and affiliations each year. This year, SGP Extreme took the theme of Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional (in English: National Health Insurance) and also affiliated with World Health Organization (WHO).

Why JKN?

In order to decrease health disparities in Indonesia and improve the general quality of life, the government established a system known as the Sistem Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional (JKN). JKN is a government program that aims to provide mandatory health insurance to all Indonesian citizens, making health accessible and affordable for the whole nation. JKN as Indonesia’s personalized universal health coverage system has started since January 1st 2014, and aims to reach full coverage of the country in 2019. As the system has been officially launched since January 1st, there should be a widespread understanding in the general population regarding this system. Healthcare providers and students studying health related fields, should especially have a greater understanding about SJKN, this includes medical students as well. However, the reality may not be as expected as not all students are exposed to events that comprehensively discuss JKN.

What did we actually do?

This program was divided in 3 main parts that was held in November 2014. The first was the Pre-Questionnaire event. In this part, students were assessed on their preliminary understanding of JKN. The second part was Seminar Day. On this day, every SCORE locals held a Socialization and training of JKN in each university. Speakers will be the lecturers from the local university and also an expert from Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Sosial (BPJS). The last part of SGP would be a Post-Questionnaire event. On this day, students were assessed once again to identify the effect of the seminar towards increasing understanding of JKN.

Where?

SGP Extreme were held in Java and Sumatra Island. At this point, we choose 6 locals that were spread in the entire area that represented Java and Sumatra. These 6 SCORE locals were: 1. Universitas Riau (UR) 2. Universitas Andalas (UNAND) 3. Universitas Indonesia (UI) 4. Universitas Negeri Sebelas Maret (UNS) 5. Universitas Brawijaya (UB) 6. Universitas Airlangga (UA) These 6 locals held the same series of SGP Extreme events that were organized by the local committees from each university. Each locals were given full authority to organize the series of events, but those 3 parts of SGP Extreme should be done within November 2014.

What is the aim?

Based on the background, SCORE-CIMSA (Standing Committee on Research Exchange – Center for Indonesian Medical Students’ Activities) believes that it is our role as medical students to actively contribute in thriving for a successful SJKN. One of the methods is by conducting a field survey to assess the general understanding of medical students regarding SJKN, in the hopes of identifying the extent of JKN socialization to the medical students.
The purpose of the proposed seminar is to contribute in training medical students to have high social awareness in efforts to improve health in Indonesia and to improve the knowledge and ability of medical students, specifically CIMSA members, in the field of research. We hope in the upcoming future, SCORE-CIMSA can continue to actively contribute towards improving Indonesia’s health, not only by conducting its infamous international research exchange programs but also from its active participation in conducting independent researches in health related issues.
